This was working for me. Then I disconnected the laptop from the network and now it does not work. I ran the batch file to remove the link are re-establish it and still Lightroom recognizes that the link is on a network drive and will not load the catalog. My Lightroom version is 3.3 and I am running Windows Vista service Pack 2.

Am I doing something wrong?

Here is my batch file;
rd c:\photos /s
MKLINK /d "C:\Photos" "\\servername\Photos"

I run it and can see the directory on the laptop, but somehow Lightroom is recognizing that it is a linked network directory.

Looks great.

Is there a way to make this work on a Mac too ?
I have a PC and a Mac and want my pictures on both machines (using the NAS as picture and catalog storage)

Eric, Yes the performance suffers with the typical files I run when compared to local files. Ingesting and syncing folders is perhaps the most painful. The benefit of consistent access across the network makes it worthwhile.

G3, this will work with both LR 2 and 3. It works on any version of Windows that supports the SUBST command. I know it works on Vista and 7, along with Server 2003 and 2008.

I've tried the SUBST approach and it works, except for "poor performance" when processing large files.

I've got a Canon 7D which saves jpeg images at 5-6MB per shot. Even with my gigabit ethernet (I'm wired to the router so it is faster) ... importaing photos, preview, loads etc are slow.

Having said that - it still works though!

This is an incredible couple of pictures. I love them. A lot. Seriously... I'm not sure what else to say, other then I wish I could have been there. A memory is much better then a picture...

This building was once part of the maintenance shop for the Chicago & Eastern Illinois Railroad. The building that looks like a roundhouse was a roundhouse. I believe this building was once a powerhouse for the shops. There used to be a tall smoke stack near by. There used to be a lot more buildings there. Also there was a fairly large brick depot that was torn down. The shops once employed several hundred people. They shut down in the 1950's when the C&EI changed to diesel power.
